Yearly Recap 2020

It seems like everyone is extra ready for a new start this year. I’ve been feeling it too — organizing, cleaning, writing, thinking, planning — it just feels like this “restart” holds more excitement instead of pressure like in years past. But in looking forward I’ve also taken a look back at 2020, despite the heavy load, it was filled with silver linings and little nuggets of success. I hope everyone can find the same.

This was my first full year devoted to this little artistic endeavor. My only goal was to grow — in number of paintings, dollars sold, and knowledge of the industry. I can proudly say that was achieved. Each sale went not only toward another canvas, more paint, and packaging for shipping, but added a little vote of confidence that this might hold value to people outside my family and friends.

At times this organic, steady growth has me wishing for a big break or some immediate gratification, but I know long term this is the best trajectory. It’s an honest, supportive and earned growth. I’m working hard to build this into my career, juggling too many things and spreading myself thin at times. But I honestly believe painting is the truest part of me — it’s something I’ve never been able to stop doing — and if it’s possible to bring that into my daily life I think it would be stupid not to give it a go, and hopefully continue this growth into 2021.

In the coming year you’re going to see more paintings with direction and conceptual foundations. You’ll see more experimenting with style, mediums and expression. There will be collaborations with local makers, a lot more invested into merchandise, some unique printing techniques, and a commitment to gathering as a community when the time is right. It’s a privilege to create and I am thankful for time I get to spend exploring and expanding this craft.

A big thank you for being here and following along.
