I found a little note, jotted down last month, in a moment of fury and tension regarding my work…

I had a very special opportunity to paint outside with a local Wyoming/Idaho artist named Sue Tyler. She has been plein air painting, teaching art, and ski bumming longer than I’ve been alive. Needless to say I was hanging on her every word.

I don’t typically paint landscapes, I like to focus in on an action or an element instead of the broad view. Painting the larger vision forces me to blend along with atmospheric perspective and create layers that don’t come entirely natural to me. I love the hard lines of close up details…

It seems like everyone is extra ready for a new start this year. I’ve been feeling it too, organizing, cleaning, writing, thinking, planning — it just feels like this “restart” holds more excitement instead of pressure in years past. But in looking forward I’ve also taken a look back at 2020, despite the heavy load, it was filled with silver linings and little nuggets of success. I hope everyone can find the same.
